Culm sheaths: Upto 44 × 15 cm , apex straight, rough dorsal surface, shiny and papery ventral surface, stright, culm sheath with brownish hairs, leaf blade narrow and tapering, ligules present
Leaves: Lanceolate, leaf stalk cylindrical, clear main vein visible from both leaf surfaces, 15- 30 cm × 2-3.5 cm, broad, not smooth, tapering apex
Stems: Rootlets in lower internodes, secondary branches many
Internode distance: 30 to 40 cm
Inflorescence forming globular head
Thorniness: Absent
Wild and also cutivated
